Close Your Mouth

Buteyko Breathing Clinic Self Help Manual
Patrick McKeown

Breathing is the most basic necessity of health to the human body--it cannot live without air for more than a few minutes. So making sure our breathing is optimum seems to me to be the most important foundation of health.

Over fifty years ago, Russian scientist Dr Konstantin Buteyko observed that the correct volume of breath is fundamental to maintaining good health and asserts that we actually breathe too much air. Since many toxic chemicals are airborne and come into our bodies through inhalation, if we are breathing in more air than our bodies require, we are also bringing in more toxic chemicals than are necessary. Hyperventilation can also cause many health problems on its own. This book offers a simple program of breath retraining through the nose (thus the title "Close Your Mouth"), the nose being perfectly designed for breathing. Correct breathing results in our bodies being in their natural state of healthy function--all organs and tissues receive the oxygen they need, enabling them to function as they should. Benefits reported include improvement in respiratory complaints, increased calmness, higher energy levels, better sleep, weight loss, normalization of blood sugar, and a reduction of "mind chatter."

Pain Free

A Revolutionary Method for Stopping Chronic Pain
Peter Egoscue

We've all been told to "stand up straight" but most of us don't. This book tells why we should--slouching leads to chronic pain throughout the body and illnesses of all kinds that you would never think are related to bones and muscles--and offers a simple program of exercises to realign the musculoskeletal structural framework of your body.

After doing these exercises ONCE, my chronic neck pain disappeared and my husband no longer needed his cane to walk, after ten years of using it. The author developed these exercises to eliminate his own pain based on "three R's": rediscover the body's design, restore function, return to health. The idea is to return the musculoskeletal system to it's natural function, and move your body according to it's inherent design. Written for pain relief, but relevant to every body.

Water & Salt

The Essence of Life
Peter Ferreira and Dr. Barbara Hendel

A fascinating look at why water and salt are the foundation of life, and how different types of water and salt can harm or help your health.

Written by a biophysicist and a naturopathic doctor this book gives an overview of the latest European studies on the contribution of water and salt to health. "It is no mistake that water Is known to be our primary source of nourishment," say the authors. "And you will see that salt, in its original form, is equally important." Contains easy to understand explanations on health and disease, and tells why one shouldn't suppress symptoms with drugs but instead should replenish the body with what is lacking.
