Overview - Debra's Bookstore

Tis the good reader that makes the good book; in every book he finds passages which seem confidences or asides hidden from all else and unmistakenly meant for his ear. The profit of books is according to the sensibility of the reader. The profoundest thought or passion sleeps as in a mine, until it is discovered by an equal mind and heart.

~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Thank you for stopping by my bookstore!

As a writer, I've always imagined having a little shop where I could share my favorite books with my readers, and now, with the magic of the Internet, here it is!

I started this bookstore to be the Recommended Reading for my own book Home Safe Home, and it is much more. I've been collecting and reading books on health and the environment for more than twenty years. My bookshelves contain over one thousand books. I'm selecting those I find to be most essential, valuable, educational, and inspiring on these subjects and am working on posting them here, along with my personal comments for each book that tell why I am recommending it to you.

It is also a place where you can always find my latest books. My most recent is Really Green, a simple guide that outlines the basic principles of green so you can choose green products with confidence. This informative and inspiring guide will give you the assurance that the products you're buying are truly green.

I continue to add books regularly. Please come visit again.

Have a great time browsing!

Debra :-)

P.S. Whenever you order a book from Debra's Bookstore, I receive a small commission as an amazon associate. Even if you want to purchase books that are not on these pages, or anything else from amazon.com, I recieve a small commission if you enter amazon.com through one of my pages (or just click here). These commissions help defray the costs of the free information offered on all of my websites. I appreciate your support.

Searching

This site is built on a "content management system" which gives three options for finding what you are looking for.

1. Use the search box in the left hand column. The search engine searches the entire text for your word or phrase and will give you every instance of that word, regardless of context. So, for example, "cake" might give you chocolate cake or a cake of soap.

2. Tags, which are listed at the bottom of each post, are specifically assigned to posts on a particular subject. "Cookbooks" would be assigned to books about cookbooks, but not where the word "cookbook" is used in passing in a post on a different subject. When you click on a tag term, you'll get other posts with that same tag term.

3. Categories, which are in a menu in the left hand column, are broad subjects. So if you are looking for books about food, for example, looking in the food category will give you posts about things to eat, whereas the search box would include results like "food for thought."
