The first paper was made from the papyrus plant in Ancient Eqypt, which once grew abundantly in the Nile Delta. Our modern word "paper" comes from the Greek word for this plant.

I like this book because it shows how material simplicity and high ideals have been part of our American culture since the founding of our country. This is a comprehensive survey of simple living over two centuries, written by a history professor (but still very easy and enjoyable to read).
